Class Schedule

Tufts Medical Center offers American Heart Association (AHA) and American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) certification and recertification courses throughout the year for employees whose job requires:

  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) 
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) 
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)

Please Note Program Changes Based on 2020 AHA Guidelines

*BLS with ACLS or PALS: Some ACLS and PALS courses offer BLS for an additional hour. Please look for this information in the note section when registering. A current, non expired BLS card or completion of the BLS online portion is required to take BLS with ACLS or PALS.
 NRP: New Certification and Recertification; 4hrs online; 3hrs in class.

Eligibility: Classes are offered to Tufts Medicine's Employees, Travelers, Contractors, and Vendors. Staff not required to have a certification to perform their job may be placed on a waiting list pending confirmation up until the day of the class.

Cost: Cost is covered for Tufts Medicine employees for courses offered on-site. The cost of these certifications is not covered for Travelers, Contractors, and Vendors.

Upcoming Classes: We will be adding more classes throughout the year. Please check back here. If no classes are offered before your certification's expiration date, please email us to request approval for an external course.

External Course: Upon our written approval, find an AHA Training Center near you such as ACLS Academy, CPR World, ... here. We do NOT accept 100% online certifications. Offering 100% online certifications are: ACLS Medical Training, Advanced Certification Institute, American Health Care Academy, National CPR Foundation, ProMed, ... If taken off-site, the course must offer a hands-on skills training.

ACLS Training

The AHA’s Advanced Cardiac Life Support Provider Course has been updated to reflect new science in the 2020 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC. ACLS teaches the importance of preventing cardiac arrest, high-performance teams, continuous high-quality CPR, systems of care, recognition and intervention of cardiopulmonary arrest, post-cardiac arrest care, acute dysrhythmias, stroke, and acute coronary syndromes (ACS). The goal of the ACLS Provider Course is to improve outcomes for adult patients of cardiac arrest and other cardiopulmonary emergencies through early recognition and interventions by high-performance teams.

This course has 2 components: an online portion which takes 4hrs to complete and a skills portion scheduled for 6hrs. A written exam will be administered in class; the passing score is 84% or higher. Upon successful completion of the course, students receive an ACLS eCard from the American Heart Association valid for 2 years. If BLS is taken with ACLS, a BLS eCard will be issued, also valid for 2 years.

BLS Renewal

The AHA’s Basic Life Support Provider Course has been updated to reflect new science in the 2020 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC. This course teaches basic life support skills and rescue techniques for adults, children, and infants with a focus on high-quality CPR, improvement of chest compression fraction, and high-performing team dynamics.

The BLS Renewal is a 2hr instructor-led Course. No online portion is required. A written exam will be administered in class; the passing score is 84% or higher. Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a BLS eCard from the American Heart Association valid for 2 years.

For Recertification ONLY. Must have a current, NON-EXPIRED BLS certification.

BLS HeartCode®

The AHA’s Basic Life Support Provider Course has been updated to reflect new science in the 2020 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC. This course teaches basic life support skills and rescue techniques for adults, children, and infants with a focus on high-quality CPR, improvement of chest compression fraction, and high-performing team dynamics.

HeartCode BLS is the AHA’s blended learning delivery method for the AHA’s BLS Course. This course has 2 components: an online portion which takes 1.5hr to complete and a skills portion scheduled for 2hrs. Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a BLS eCard from the American Heart Association valid for 2 years.

This course is for first time BLS providers and BLS providers with an expired card.

PALS Training

The AHA’s Pediatric Advanced Life Support Course has been updated to reflect new science in the 2020 AHA Guidelines for CPR and ECC. The goal of the PALS Provider Course is to improve outcomes for pediatric patients by preparing healthcare providers to effectively recognize and intervene in patients with respiratory emergencies, shock, and cardiopulmonary arrest by using high-performance team dynamics and high-quality individual skills. This course uses precourse preparation, didactic instruction, and active participation in learning stations and simulated cases.

This course has 2 components: an online portion which takes 3.5hrs to complete and a skills portion scheduled for 6hrs. A written exam will be administered in class; the passing score is 84% or higher. Upon successful completion of the course, students receive a PALS eCard from the American Heart Association valid for 2 years. If BLS is taken with PALS, a BLS eCard will be issued, also valid for 2 years.

Neonatal Resuscitation Program

The Neonatal Resuscitation Program® (NRP®) course conveys an evidence-based approach to care of the newborn at birth and facilitates e​ffective team-based care for healthcare professionals who care for newborns at the time of delivery. NRP utilizes a blended learning approach, which includes online testing, online case-based simulations, and hands-on case-based simulation/debriefing that focus on critical leadership, communication, and team-work skills.​

This course has 2 components: an online portion (Advanced Course(1-11) which takes 4hrs to complete and a skills portion scheduled for 3hrs.
